about VINYL...

The infectious music of Vinyl blends old-school funk, Latin percussion, reggae and R&B into signature instrumental grooves.

Vinyl shows are high energy and dance oriented with a universal appeal. They play to packed houses throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, such as the Great American Music Hall, Slim's, Sweetwater and have headlined and sold-out San Francisco's legendary Fillmore Auditorium.

VINYL has performed on the main stage at a wide range of music festivals including the High Sierra Music Festival, Mountain Aire Music Festival and Reggae on the River. In February, 2000, Vinyl and Phil Lesh teamed up for a sold-out concert in Petaluma, CA with Vinyl performing as Phil's band. Such collaborations, combined with their national touring schedule has helped Vinyl become one of the most recognized bands in the jamband community.

Vinyl was voted into the top 25 bands in the country by jambands.com's nationwide 1999 poll.
As a national touring act, Vinyl has brought their unique show to virtually all the major markets in the United States and Canada.

Highlights of these tours include engagements at the Newport Jazz Festival, the Berkshire Mountain Music Festival and three trips to New Orleans during the legendary Jazz and Heritage Festival.

In New Orleans, Vinyl had the honor of playing with the Meter's at the House of Blues and played sunrise sets at the Maple Leaf three consecutive years. Vinyl has performed over 800 shows since their inception in 1995.

In October 1999, Vinyl was awarded a prestigious "Wammie" for best International Band by San Francisco's SF Weekly. Vinyl has released three independent records; 1997's self-titled debut, 1998's Live at Sweetwater and most recently, Flea Market, released in the Spring of 2001.

Flea Market showcased Vinyl's experimental nature in their most adventurous album to date, taking listeners on a journey through a multitude of musical styles while blending together songs, segues, and jams.

Recorded at the soon-to-be-famous In The Pocket Studio in the hills of Northern California, Flea Market boasts guest appearances by legendary musicians Bernie Worrell and Les Claypool.

Vinyl brings their fresh, innovative sound to an ever-growing contingent of fans and groove junkies as they continue to tour the country spreading their west-coast funk vibe with each and every show.
